The Department of Military Instruction's (DMI) mission is to build, educate, train, and inspire the US Military Academy's Corps of Cadets in the essence of war-fighting and the Profession of Arms in order to develop future Army officers with the values, ethos, military skills, and leadership competencies necessary to lead America’s Soldiers.
The purpose of the Military Program is to instill in cadets the foundational military competencies necessary to win in a complex world while inspiring them to professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.
COL Federovich is the current Director of the Department of Military Instruction. He is a native of Fort Rucker, AL and commissioned in the Infantry through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at George Washington University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Social-Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.

DMI hires personnel for all positions through an internal hiring board. Personnel must be either post-KD or in their current broadening period, demonstrate potential for continued promotion, and prepared to dedicate themselves to the development of Cadets as future leaders of character.
