Originally from North Carolina, he commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Infantry branch upon graduating from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 2008. He has previously served in the 82nd Airborne Division, 4th Infantry Division, and 2d Cavalry Regiment.He holds a master's degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University, a master's degree in operational studies from the Command and General Staff Officer's College, and a doctorate in human bioenergetics from Colorado State University.
