CPT John Andon is an instructor in the Department of History & War Studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He currently serves in the Military History Division, teaching HI302: History of the Military Art – 1900 to Present.
Hailing from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, CPT Andon attended Villanova University where he earned his commission as a field artillery officer through Army ROTC. As a branch detail officer, he served as an infantry company fire support officer, assistant operations officer, firing platoon leader, and battalion S2 with 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. He later served as a Division G2 operations officer and the 1st Infantry Division Artillery assistant S2 before attending the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. CPT Andon then served as a brigade assistant S2 and a battalion headquarters company commander with the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. He has completed three operational deployments, once to Korea and twice to Europe.
CPT Andon earned his master's degree in history through the University of Kansas and is currently completing his Ph.D. dissertation on the Allied employment of naval gunfire support in the European and Mediterranean theaters during World War II. He specializes in 20th century U.S. military history and is joined at West Point by his wife, Mikayla, and their son, Michael.
