His wife, Patty, is also an Army officer and they have two children. Joe enjoys sports of all kinds, particularly hockey, golf, and baseball, and was a member of the hockey team during his time as a cadet. He also enjoys astronomy, astrophotography, wildlife photography, running, and anything involving computers.
