Also known as "Reception Day," this is the day cadet candidates report to West Point. Candidates report early in the day to begin in-processing for their 47-month experience. Parents and family members are invited to explore certain areas of West Point, visit the Parent Welcome and Information area in Eisenhower Hall, check out Army equipment and vehicles, hear remarks from leadership, and view the Oath Ceremony at the end of the day.

Circle in the Spiral Exhibit - The Circle in the Spiral literary magazine, designed by the DCA Publications Office, showcases the photography and artwork of over 60 cadets. Each page was enlarged and placed on the walls of the Eisenhower Hall’s 5th Floor Class of 1929 Art Gallery. The exhibit will be open to the general public for an entire year during all times the building is open.

Hudson River Boat Tours

  • Boat will depart from South Dock, running every 30 minutes. 
  • Tours are first come, first served, with no reservations. 
  • Last boat departs from South Dock at 1 p.m. and will return 
    at 1:30 p.m. 
  • Tours are weather-dependent and may be canceled due to 
    inclement weather.

Superintendent's Welcome Brief

Located in Eisenhower Hall Theater; immediately following the Superintendent’s remarks, shuttles will be available for transportation to The Plain for the Oath Ceremony.

Oath Ceremony on The Plain

Please be seated by 6:15 p.m. After the ceremony, shuttles will be available to transport guests to A-Lot (parking areas west of Michie Stadium).

Parking & Transportation

Parking

Families should enter through Stony Lonesome Gate and park in the upper parking lots west of Michie Stadium and Foley Center. Families will turn into A-Lot to drop off their cadet candidates or park in the upper lots.

Shuttles

  • Shuttles will run from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to transport cadet candidates and their guests from the Foley Center (parking areas) to the Eisenhower (Ike) Hall Clock Tower.
  • After guests and parents say goodbye to their cadet candidates, circle route shuttles will be available to transport guests around West Point from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The route is as follows:

    • Ike Hall > Clinton Parking > Buffalo Soldier Field (walk to South Dock) > Visitors Center > Herbert Hall (the Association of Graduates) > A-Lot > K-Lot (Subway / Starbucks) > Ike Hall

  • A handicap shuttle will be available to transport guests from the handicap parking area to Ike Hall and will circulate all day as needed.

  • Pre-Oath Ceremony shuttles will transport guests from Ike Hall to the Plain review stands from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. after the Superintendent's address in Ike Hall Auditorium.

  • Post-Oath Ceremony shuttles will transport guest from the Plain review stands to the parking lots west of Michie Stadium from 7 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m.

  • WPAOG Pre-Reception Day Ice Cream Social
    The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is hosting a free Pre-Reception Day Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 28. Cadet candidates and their families will have the opportunity to meet fellow candidate families and members of the 50-Year Affiliate Class of 1980.

  • The Thayer Hotel
    Celebrate the milestone weekend at the Thayer Hotel with the Beat Navy Buffet on Sunday, June 28. Guests can also enjoy dining at:

    • MacArthur's Riverview Restaurant
    • General Patton's Tavern
    • Zulu Time Rooftop Bar
On R-Day
  • WPAOG Free Breakfast with the 50-Year Affiliate Class
    New cadets and guests of the 50-Year Affiliate Class are invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast at Ike's Riverside Café from 6 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

  • Thayer Hotel Breakfast Burritos To-Go
    The Thayer Hotel will offer breakfast burritos to-go on Monday, June 29.

  • Starbucks
     Open 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Subway
    Open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Ike's Riverside Café
    Open for lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • West Point Club Buffet Luncheon

    After dropping off your cadet candidate, family members are invited to attend the WPAOG R-Day Barbeque. Options include:

    • Dine-in at Herbert Hall: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    • Boxed lunch on The Plain: 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

      Please note: The R-Day Barbeque is for family members only. Cadet candidates are unable to attend as the event takes place after in-processing begins.
